LET THERE BE LEOPARD: TOP 5 PIECES TO SHOP THIS PRINT

Leopard is everywhere you look this season. It’s a timeless print you can easily add to your closest for fall.

My first nod to the trend in the last few months was a leopard skirt I scored at & Other Stories in the perfect slip style.

Of course, I can’t get enough. Being a denim girl, I wear jeans on the daily. These leopard pants I came across at Zara make the print even more wearable and a bit unexpected in a jean.

Wear with your favorite neutral tee like me or add a cool vintage style to mix it up. As soon as the temps drop, I see myself styling these with an oversized sweater and loafers.

Possibilities are endless. Are you ready to step into the wild side? (Had to! Lol)

Top 5 pieces to shop this print:

Whether you decide to lean hard into the print or add a touch with an accessory, you can’t go wrong with these picks:

THE SUMMER TOP YOU NEED NOW

It’s finally summer in NYC and somehow spring came and went?!

With these hot temps up to 95 degrees…you have to stay cool in more ways than one.

This summer, I’m loving the white eyelet top. This one has a beautiful square neck-line (very on trend + flattering) and the cutest button detail.

Guess where I got it….Forever 21!

Shocking I know. This could be mistaken for a Reformation top which I’m obsessed with. Pairing something eyelet with your favorite pair of jeans adds the perfect feminine touch for the season. Accessorize with your favorite gold necklaces, an easy summer sandal and a straw bag and this outfit can take you from work, a date or a fun day with your girls.

Here’s a few more styles I love for easy shopping by American Eagle, another American Eagle, H&M and another great H&M find.

Happy Summer!

BLACK DENIM ON DENIM

I’ve always been a jeans girl and black denim has consistently been a wardrobe staple for me. Living in NYC, you can never have enough black. It’s timeless, can go from day to night and an all black look adds that model-off-duty edge I can’t get enough of.

I’m all about an oversized denim jacket. I couldn’t find the perfect black denim jacket for some time then I realized…why not try a men’s? There’s something very cool about “borrowing from the boys”. This one is by American Eagle and worn in a men’s size small. It gives just the right amount of boxiness without looking like the jacket is wearing me.

What’s great about wearing an oversized jacket is that you can layer so much underneath. To stay warm throughout the longest winter of my life (blizzard in March?!) I pair a cozy sweater underneath. This sweater is by H&M and I discovered it via one my favorite fashion bloggers of all time, Sincerely Jules. (Thanks, Jules!) She wore it one day on Instagram and I immediately purchased it via my phone because I’m always on the hunt for the perfect grey sweater. I’ve never loved a sweater more, it’s a great crew neck and has become a piece I’ve repeated all season long.

The jeans I’m wearing are also by American Eagle. These are the Vintage Hi-Rise. I sized down in these since they are pretty high-waisted and added a personal touch by cutting the bottom for some undone fringe. I wear these jeans all the time. They’ve faded to a unique greyish-black tone that I love.

To complete the look? I’ve added the bold white bootie and Gucci crossbody. I know many people are a bit indecisive about the white bootie but anytime I wear these with an all black look like this I feel like it completely elevates my look. I enjoy wearing these with a wide leg jean or pant to let the shoe really make the statement. Also, these are very comfortable! I scored these at Urban Outfitters and am very pleased with my purchase.

Are you ready to make your next denim look black on black?

ADD SOME SHINE: THE PATENT PUFFER

It’s February and it’s still freezing.

The parka game may be getting a little old and it gets harder and harder to actually attempt dressing up in the winter. Thankfully, some outerwear trends can make a statement and still keep you warm like the patent puffer.

Since fall, the patent trend has been everywhere. I love it in boots, skirts and yes even pants! I gave into the skirt and sadly declined on the pant once I tried them on in the fitting room and heard how they sounded as I tried walking back and forth and immediately thought of the Friends episode with Ross’s leather pants…the horror. lol

On Black Friday I had ventured into Zara in the suburbs and there it was…shining bright…the patent puffer. I knew I had to have it!

Yes, it was a bit ridiculous. Yes, it kind of made me feel like Missy Elliot in the ‘The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)’ video but I didn’t care — I needed it…and it was on sale! I got that and these boots I’m wearing here which also happen to be borderline patent…I can’t help myself. The heart wants what it wants.

For this look, I kept it super simple wearing a black turtleneck sweater by H&M and these amazing jeans by Levi’s in collaboration with Aritzia. They’re the jean I have been searching at every vintage store for…a light wash, non-destroyed pair of Levi’s 501s with a high waist. They do cut at the ankle so wearing a high ankle boot like these are perfect.

This puffer may seem a little bold to some but I think it’s a great way to ease into the trend if you’re still a little on the fence. It’s a fun outerwear piece that can also go sporty. I think it would look great with sweats or leggings for a more athleisure look as well!

SELF CARE SPOTLIGHT: Facial at Heyday

I’m all about self care and skin care. Taking care of my skin has always been very important to me and every now and then I like to treat myself to a facial! I was fortunate enough to experience a facial at NYC facial hot spot, Heyday.

The Heyday window alone stopped me in my tracks with its Instagrammable decor and a few of my friends have raved about facials here so it had been on my list to try! There are a few locations around the city but I had the privilege to check out their Upper East Side location.

b1606d5c-d2d1-4bb9-bce5-8368449954b9

Heyday offers three types of facials, in 30, 50 and 75 minutes. I received the 50 minute facial and it was perfect. The 50 minute facial is a classic, comprehensive, deep cleansing facial to reset and refresh your skin for the month ahead, aka my ideal facial. My Skin Therapist, Alexis, was super friendly and listened to my skin concerns. I told her my skin was oily and on the sensitive side and she assured me nothing she would use on me would affect my skin in a negative way and she was right!

She even checked out my skins hydration levels which was very cool. I left the spa with the most amazing glow and a great product recommendation. Sometimes when I get a facial I try to take in all the advice I can from the esthetician but I don’t always remember everything in full detail. What is amazing about Heyday is that your Skin Therapist will send you a detailed recap e-mail after your visit with certain product recommendations you may have forgotten while you were relaxing in bliss.

She suggested I use the IMAGE Vital C Hydrating Enzyme Masque and I bought immediately. It is an exfoliating enzyme mask with Vitamin C great for removing dead skin cell buildup. My skin felt so nice after this facial, not red or irritated which was a game changer for me.

Post facial glow sefie

I would definitely recommend checking out Heyday for yourself if you want a simple no fuss facial that’s quick, effective and well priced. Also, Heyday is also a great place to shop skincare products that are approved by their Skin Therapists. They have locations in Nomad, Tribeca, Upper West Side and Noho in addition to the Upper East Side.

Check out the HeyDay webiste here to book your facial and also they have a very informative blog filled with skin care tips!

Thank you, HeyDay for a wonderful facial experience, hope to be back soon!

NYE BEAUTY: ADD SPARKLE TO MORE THAN JUST YOUR OUTFIT THIS NYE!

On New Year’s Eve, add sparkle to more than just your outfit! Play up your make-up and have some fun. Day to day I don’t wear a smokey eye and keep my make-up more on the natural side so when it comes to a night out, like NYE, I love playing up my eyes. Also, I’m a big fan of any excuse to buy gold glitter eyeliner as you’ll see below. Here are a few of latest additions to my make-up bag that are perfect to ring in the New Year!

Marc Jacobs Beauty Eye-Conic Multi-Finish Eyeshadow Palette – Discovered this palatte in Scandalust from mega beauty influencer Marianna Hewitt who was recreating Emily Ratajkowski’s look done by makeup artist, Hung Vanngo. Highly suggest you follow his Instagram account, he is behind some of the most iconic models and celebrities beauty looks and is such an inspiration! I recently met Marianna Hewitt at a blogger event for Who What Wear in NYC, where she spoke on a panel. I had the privilege to meet her and told her I had just purchased this Marc Jacobs palette because of her and she said it is such a good one which made me feel even more excited about my purchase! I always lean towards bronze and golds on my eyes and loved the mix of rust within this palatte. It’s the perfect base to create a NYE look!

Emily’s look — major inspo:

Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter Liner — I cant help it, ever since elementary school I’ve been drawn towards glittery things. Perhaps the obsession started with my first purchase of the Bath & Body Works ‘Art Stuff’ glitter roller ball. Me and my friends loved putting this ridiculous purple and blue glitter all over our eye lids and face. (I hope those of you reading this can relate because looking up a picture now to hyperlink to ‘Art Stuff’ has brought me so much joy!) However, this Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter liner gives me the same satisfaction but way more grown up. I discovered it when Byrdie.com invited me to join their Byrdie Beauty Lab powered by Nordstrom here in NYC. They had a pop-up where they featured the best beauty products sold at Nordstrom and I was immediately drawn to it! A touch of it over my black eyeliner and it adds just enough sparkle for a fun night!

Laura Mercier Kajal D’Orient — I was gifted this Laura Mercier Kajal D’Orient in Noir Supreme and am obsessed. For years, using a thick pencil like this was my signature move but then I somehow started using liquid liner and took a break from the Kajal life. But within the last few months since receiving this I absolutely love it! If you enjoy a more smudged liner look and smokey eye, this is for you. I use it with an angled brush to wing it out. It’s also easy to line the inside and waterline of your lids with it’s smooth application.

Laura Mercier Face Illuminator Powder — Can’t have enough of Laura Mercier! I love this highlighter in shade Indiscretion for a quick J. Lo glow. A little bit above my cheek bones and above the eyelid add the perfect amount of sheen. Also, I have super sensitive skin and this product hasn’t made me break out like past powders have. Shop it, here.

Dior Addict Lipstick — I took a photo into Sephora of this model I discovered on Instagram during NYFW with the perfect pink pout that looked effortless and natural but still there. This is basically the constant lip color I’m searching for and this Dior shade in 578 is a top favorite of mine! Since I usually smoke up my eyes for a night out, especially NYE, I like to go more natural on the lip. This lipstick is perfect because it makes your lips look like your lips  — only better. It’s also a great everyday product because it’s moisturizing, sheen and gives the right amount of color.

Artis Brushes — Your tools to create your makeup look are just as important as your product! I recently had the privilege to be invited to the Artis showroom in NYC and learned so much about these luxury makeup brushes. They just came out with these brushes in the “Smoke” shade, how fitting for NYE! Their brushes have changed the game when it comes to makeup tools and feel amazing to use. Shown here is the Circle 1 brush, great for shadow or even to conceal. The second brush is the, Linear 1 brush, which is great for liners and making things precise. Shop them, here.

I hope this inspires you to switch up your NYE look and add some sparkle in more ways than one!

Thank you for all your support in 2017 and following this journey with me. Here’s to 2018 and making it one of the best years yet!

Happy New Year!

GOLDEN.

This season thus far has a been dominated by the puffer jacket. An athleisure classic which reminds me most of hip hop stars in the 90s is a wardrobe essential.

Great news is that newer styles won’t make you feel like the Michelin Man (lol) as they’re more tailored and cropped.

I’m usually attracted to all things gold so it was no surprise my eyes went straight to this American Eagle Puffer Jacket.

It’s a great weekend piece to add to an all black ensemble complete with a hoodie and leggings, my favorite way to wear.

This season’s puffers come in so many styles, it’s hard not to pick just one. From bright cherry reds to patent to bold yellows, this jacket is meant to stand out as you should! Ready to add this jacket to your wish list? Linked my favorites below!

Thank you so much for following my blog, wishing you and yours a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! Be sure to check out more updates via Instagram, @symaspeaks.

THE PARTY TOP: UPDATED

As the holidays approach, it seems like this month is filled with even more events, birthdays and dinners with friends before family time and some much needed hibernation. When the temps drop it can be challenging to put effort into your outfits. I know I tend to gravitate towards dark jeans and cozy sweaters but sometimes that can get a bit boring for a night out.

Quick way to upgrade your look? Add a fun blouse! It’s been a while since I’ve updated my “going-out tops” and for the longest time it was a sea of tank tops. However, I came across this top at Zara and was immediately drawn to it. I love the unique shade of blue and contrast of color with the floral print. The drapey fabric is so pretty and fun fact –it’s actually a bodysuit which makes it super easy to tuck into a high waisted jeans.

Keeping the rest of the look simple is key. I kept it clean with my go-to black jeans by American Eagle to let the top be the star and added my black ankle boots. I accessorized with my black Gucci bag and gold vintage earrings.

Linking below a few of my favorite tops similar to this one to ease you through the holiday season. Happy shopping!

LEATHER WEATHER: TOP 5 JACKETS TO ADD TO YOUR WARDROBE NOW

A leather jacket is something that can elevate any outfit. It is so important to invest in one you love. It took me a while to find my favorite after a big debate and I found a great option by Zara. Best part? It was under $200! Links to all my favorites from high to low are on my LiketoKnowit profile here as well as below — happy shopping!

FALL ESSENTIAL: THE PLAID BLAZER

Menswear inspired pieces have always been a favorite of mine and this season there’s a print that has resurfaced…plaid.

Around NYC and my Instagram feed the plaid blazer began taking over which in turn led me to looking for the perfect one. I normally don’t jump to plaid prints, but something about this in a blazer silhouette felt very wearable and easy to add to my usual casual looks.

I found this gem at a store that is very dear to my heart — Target. Can you believe it?!

I was home visiting my parents in Indiana and had to make a trip to my classic suburban Target because in the city I don’t have the luxury where the Target inventory is fully stocked and organized. Any New Yorkers feel my pain out there?

But there it was, the perfect plaid blazer and guess how much it cost?? $34.99!!! *crowd roars*

It was a no brainer. I bought it and about 100 other things I don’t need in a matter of minutes because that’s what happens at Target…you get overwhelmed, excited and all of sudden you need everything.

When I got back to NYC, I wanted to style this blazer in a very easy way. I paired it with a fun graphic tee by American Eagle. I love the bold red letters and ‘Femme Vibes’ is always a good message.

Next, I’ve been obsessed with the Levi’s Wedgie fit jean. They have just the right hint of stretch and a thick vintage like denim feel without having to go through billions of thrift stores to find the best fit — ideal!

As for accessories, I kept it simple with my Gucci cross-body, minimal black heel by Steve Madden (comfy too–important) and my go-to round Ray-Bans.

Are you ready to add a little plaid to your closet? I say yes.

STAND OUT IN THE STRIPE PANT

Stripe pants can be a bold statement. I came across these last summer at H&M and wore them frequently with a simple black top because I didn’t want to compete with the pattern. However, I got inspired to pair them with something a little more daring — a rock tee to mix things up a bit.

Rock tees have become a wardrobe staple for some time now. I had an obsession of trying to find the perfect vintage tee but it was a constant struggle. Luckily, a lot of mass brands have done some cool collaborations to bring that vintage feel in a more attainable way, like this awesome Rolling Stones tee by American Eagle.

I love how this pairs with the stripe pant for an updated look. As we get into the cooler days now that it’s October (!), you can take this into night by adding your go-to leather jacket.

Finishing touches? A simple slide sandal and my Gucci cross-body. Also, my lob. More on that hair transformation later though…I could go on and on….:)

Hope this look inspired you to try out a statement pant. These feel practically like pajama pants so I don’t think you’ll be dissappointed. 🙂

Wardrobe Must-Have: The Aerie City Sweatshirt

If I could wear one thing everyday it would be the Aerie City Sweatshirt. I’ve never worn anything more comfortable that is acceptable outside the house. Lol

It’s the perfect item to throw on when you’re heading out for weekend errands or having a chill night on the couch. I love pairing mine with my Aerie Move leggings — also amazingly comfortable.

My favorite part about this sweatshirt is how soft it is. You have to feel it! I also love the oversized fit. I have three colors because I couldn’t just pick one…and at that price, why not?!

I styled this with my Aerie colorblock move legging. I love the rise on these and love the mix of white and grey.

Accessorized with my weekend staples — a Yankee hat (queue Jay Z ‘Empire State of Mind’) , my black Vans and Gucci crossbody I’m ready for a day on the go and effortless as ever.

Get yours, here. Thank me later. 🙂

Not Over Summer Staples

It’s September in New York and everyone is way too hyped about Pumpkin Spice Lattes…but not me. What can I say, I love warm temps and summer style. Last night I was on a beautiful rooftop in downtown Brooklyn and all I could think about was how cold it was and my friend kept reminding me it was only 60 degrees! lol

This look I shot a while back but it has been my go-to outfit of choice throughout the season and will try my hardest to wear these items as long as I can!

First up, the bodysuit. I had major inspiration from the cute bodysuits I saw on Reformation.com but found one at Forever 21 for a fraction of the cost! I literally bought this in two colors. I love the cream and black stripes and tie detailing on the straps. It’s all about the details. Paired with my hi-waisted cropped flares with already fringed hems by Levi’s — it’s the perfect look to transition into fall (if we must!).

Shoes? I can’t stop wearing these satin yellow slides. I love the color mustard and am so excited to see a lot of it for fall as well. I first fell in love with these particular shoes on Instagram and ran to Zara to try on. However, the Zara ones didn’t quite fit right but then  I found the perfect replica (again) at Forever 21! Sometimes when Forever is good, it really is.

The final touch? My basket bag from ‘& Other Stories’. I’ve worn this bag all season. It’s the best size to fit so much in and the best part? I got it on sale AND it’s real leather. Talk about winning.

Hope you can get some inspo from this look and we can still have some warm days left to live out summer to its fullest.

Sugar + Stripes

I didn’t know I could become so obsessed with gummy candies again until I had my first Sugarfina Sugar Lips. Sweet, tangy and yummy…they are simply delicious. They’re basically the sour patch kids I had as a child, all grown up and in way better packaging. (Talk about Instagrammable!) I thought how fun would it be to mix up my outfit blog shoots and take this one on location.

Behold, my editorial + candy dream come to life on one Saturday in NYC…

Back to our scheduled programming — the outfit. This look is ideal for a summer weekend brunch or day party. We’ve seen a version of classic blue stripes everywhere this season. I love this simple silhouette by Zara. What makes it stand out is the amazing embroidery on the sleeves. The wrap style can be worn in a few different ways but I think it looks best worn slightly off the shoulder.

To keep the rest of this outfit simple, I wore my Kendall Jenner inspired jeans by Citizens of Humanity from Aritzia. This fit, called the Liya, has a great hight rise and just the right amount of distressing. I sized down in these for a more flattering fit.

Lastly, I added my go-to suede wrap heels by Steve Madden from ae.com and I’m ready to grab some sweets and hit the city in style.

If you haven’t tried Sugarfina, I highly suggest it. I have no shame buying some for myself and while you’re there grab a few for your girlfriends too — they make the best gifts! The store is the cutest – if you have a chance, definitely visit this location on the Upper East Side in NYC!

A SUNSCREEN SAFE FOR SENSITIVE + DARKER SKIN EXISTS?!

I will confess – I am not a regular sunscreen wearer. I have tried many different types over the years but some either have broken me out or leave a ghostly cast on my face that doesn’t look natural. I related to this post, Glossier, founder, CEO and all-around beauty inspiration, Emily Weiss wrote so much. I thought I was alone in the SPF struggle.

Welcome, Glossier Invisible Shield. I have had this product for a while thanks to the nice girls at Glossier but have waited to write this post to really make sure the sunscreen did not break me out and wore well.

I have the most sensitive skin – many products break me out in some form of allergic reaction but this passed the test! I have layered with make-up and no white cast — it’s simply amazing.

A lot of people with darker skin like mine don’t always think they need to wear a sunscreen as we are not the ones burning on the beach but that is not the case! A sunscreen isn’t just for the beach – it’s literally SUN day — every day!

As every skin is so different, I would test it out for yourselves and see how you like it. It has a SPF level of 35 so is perfect for daily use and has been part of my daily routine.

Thanks for making another revolutionary product, Glossier!

P.S. — They just launched Wowder (best name ever?) last week and I am so excited that I got my hands on it, will have a review coming soon!

Shop it, here.

ON REPEAT: Slip Dress + Tee with Aerie

Two closet essentials by Aerie – a striped tee and slip dress. I’m all about a 90’s comeback! Wearing a classic slip dress like this over a t-shirt makes this #OOTD super fun and casual.

IMG_1974IMG_1953IMG_1969

It’s a perfect outfit for running around NYC in the summer heat. Paired with my go-to sneakers of the moment adds a little edge to my look and not to mention, super comfortable which is so important.

I love the versatility of these two pieces – rocking the tee with a pair of jeans or wearing the slip dress by itself for a night out on the town is definitely in my future. These are two key pieces in my wardrobe I know I’ll be wearing on repeat.

SUMMER SOLSTICE: TOP 5 DRESSES

Summer is officially here — can you believe it?! I wanted to share my top five favorite dresses to celebrate the season we’ve been waiting so long for.

It’s finally time to wear those off-the-shoulder numbers you’ve put away from last year’s wardrobe and bring them back out. This trend may seem a bit overplayed I know but I promise it is still relevant.

I’ve added a few more dress trends I’ve been loving this season and hope you find a fave amongst the list below.

Happy summer and happy shopping!

Going global. Embroidered pieces have been all the rage. Love the details of this by Zara

A maxi is always a good idea in these warmer temps. Love this AE dress.

Can’t beat a classic cold shoulder white dress. This Aerie one is perfect to take from the beach to the streets.

A bold print is what your wardrobe needs to have some fun! Living for this Mango mini.

Can never have enough slip dresses. This silky dress from H&M looks school layered over a tee with sneakers or paired with your favorite tassel high heels for a night out on the town.

POWER SUIT

A monochromatic look is always in style. I love wearing all white — it always looks so classic and chic.

For this look I rediscovered a blazer I have from Aritzia and completely gave it an update by pairing it with a white crew neck tee and my high waisted cropped Levi’s.

This is my modern power suit.

I’ve always been a denim lover and a pair of white jeans is a wardrobe essential. The frayed hem trend isn’t going anywhere for a while and this little detail helps show off what I call a ‘wow factor’ — these heels.

I bought these shoes impulsively before a trip to Vegas with my sister and am so happy I did. The block heel is actually pretty comfortable and I love the shade of gold.

The finishing touch? My Gucci crossbody.

I have shared this item on my Instagram but haven’t blogged about it yet! After probably a year long thought process of what designer bag to splurge on (many conversations, focus groups, lengthy group texts with my sisters) I finally decided that this Gucci bag was what I wanted most. The classic camera style is perfect to fit my necessities; iPhone (Plus), mini wallet, metro card and a lip color. I am obsessed with the gold hardware and am excited to officially start my designer handbag collection….which could be dangerous.

UNEXPECTED EMBROIDERY

This spring it’s all about embroidery.

I’ve seen so many unique pieces this season with the most beautiful embellishment. Anywhere from denim, tees, jackets and accessories — this extra detail can really update your look.

This jacket by French Connection just spoke to me. Maybe it’s my Pakistani roots, but the embroidery on this jacket is so reminiscent of my heritage. I love the intricate detail and color combination. It’s such a statement piece that is made super wearable on a sporty silhouette — the classic bomber jacket.

I decided to make the jacket the star of the outfit and keep the rest of the look super simple. An easy white v-neck tee, by Don’t Ask Why, has the best slouch and oversized fit. I am always on the hunt for the perfect white tee and this one is by far one of my most loved.

If you’ve been following my blog, you know I’m a denim girl. These Vintage Hi-Rise Straight distressed jeans by American Eagle make this look easy, relaxed and casual.

One of my favorite parts of this outfit? My earrings by Baublebar. Not only are these a great accessory to add to any outfit – they’re very light weight and won’t hurt your ears by the end of the day! I’m a huge fan of statement earrings but the worst part is that most are so heavy and painful. However, these are quite comfortable and I want every color. Dangerous! It was hard for me to not buy them all…I opted for the white and pale pink for now. Highly recommend!

Completed the look with my go-to menswear loafer and I’m ready to hit up brunch with the girls or some easy shopping around the streets of SoHo.

Remix Your Rock Tees

The rock tee trend isn’t going anywhere and I can’t get enough.

Worn by top street style stars – my faves, Kendall + Gigi, this is the perfect way to add some vintage flare to any outfit.

And it’s ok if you don’t know every song to the band’s name you’re wearing…but maybe at least google them so you’re not totally stunned when someone asks you, “What’s your favorite AC/DC song?” Lol.

I was inspired by Gigi ever since I saw her wear this look; rock tee, amazing wide leg white pants and sneakers. I love the unexpected wide leg pant with this tee. Sure denim looks classic with this top but something about a wide leg pant gives it an entirely different vibe.

I found these amazing pants at H&M. I’m always a huge fan of anything high waisted and this pair had an ideal rise. I also love the oversized belt they came with!

Adding my leather jacket to this look was a no – brainer. I can’t stress enough how important it is to have a solid leather jacket in your wardrobe. With the amazing styles they have now at Zara, you can get a luxe feeling jacket without an insane price tag. I love the details of this Moto one – the hardware can edge up any look.

Lastly, it’s all about a clean white sneaker. I decided to give my Stan Smiths a break and go for something different. Hello, Puma’s! So comfortable and so chic – yes, it is possible.

A pop of my red bag, by (now vintage) Kate Spade Saturday, and I’m ready to be snapped by the paparazzi in style. Just kidding, but hey, shouldn’t you always feel like a model walking down the street? The sidewalk is your runway.

Let’s recreate.

THE PERFECT EVERYDAY LIP

I don’t know how many times I’ve searched for the perfect nude, everyday lipstick.

It is so hard finding the right balance of pink and warm tones that work well for not only my skin tone but every day wear.

I’m constantly looking for a lip color I can wear on a daily basis for an easy, fresh face.

And then you finally find it…behold, Laura Mercier’s Lip Colour Sheer in Bare Lips.

The name alone is perfection. It goes on so smooth, almost like a lip balm. So many lipsticks are not moisturizing and really dry out your lips — but not this one my friends. It glides on so easy and has the right amount of color that lasts all day! I promise!

I love wearing this lipstick alone for a subtle pink hue or lately I’ve been using it as a a base for other lip colors. The soft pink shade evens out the tone of my lips making any lip color I layer on top, really pop.

I highly recommend this lipstick because when you find the right one with the exact balance of rosy pink, nude tone and moisture you can’t just keep it to yourself!

Shop the color, here.

You’re welcome,

Syma

ALL BLUSH EVERYTHING

I’m not sure what it is about the color blush but my year long obsession continues. Even the cherry blossoms around New York inspire my wardrobe! I can’t get enough.

As we transition into spring, I can’t quite put away my sweaters with temps between the 50s and 60s so I tend to reach for a lighter silhouette like this one. I’ve been loving this sweater by Don’t Ask Why so much I have it in two colors.

The cut-out choker detailing makes your every day sweater a little more interesting. I love the oversized sleeves for a cool relaxed look.

Paired with my go-to jeans by Citizens of Humanity from Aritzia makes for an effortless OOTD.

I love pairing a cropped jean with a pointed black boot. Gives that cool model off duty vibe that if you’ve been following my blog for some time you know I’m all about.

SPRING TRANSITION: COZY NEUTRALS

Spring is near they say…but in New York I’m somehow still wearing my parka jacket. When will it end?!

I am so ready to give the puffer coat a break and transition into something a little cooler. Queue the oversized moto jacket + cozy sweater combo.

I found this jacket at H&M and am obsessed with the shape. This is actually an XS but it fits oversized which is perfect to layer over a a thick, dreamy sweater.

I first fell in love with this sweater which is also from H&M (I’ve had insane love for them lately) on Instagram and was on the search for it for weeks! I finally found it in a size medium and went for it anyways because I just had to have it.

I’m so glad I purchased it — definitely one of my favorite purchases of this season. It’s not only super comfortable but makes me feel so chic when I pair it with a great pair of vintage jeans. The color is an ideal neutral and the perfect addition to my wardrobe.

For this look, I kept it very simple and went with all black. I’ve been loving layering fishnets under my jeans to add some edge to my look. A super inexpensive trend to try that I highly recommend. To complete my look, I added my go-to menswear inspired loafers and a fun statement gold earring, coincidentally also from H&M. ( I’m obsessed with them lately!)

ON THE GO IN FAUX

This look was inspired by the streets of NYC. I love seeing girls mix unexpected pieces together. To achieve my ultimate off-duty style, I paired a mix of key items from my wardrobe. I highly reccommend you add the below to your closet if you don’t already own:

  • Faux fur jacket
  • Faux leather leggings
  • A great comfy wool sweater
  • All white pumas (wanted an update from my Adidas Stan Smiths)
  • Baseball Hat (Reppin’ Yankees for my love of NY 🙂 )

Whether you’re out running errands with a mix of brunch this is a perfect look for you to recreate. I also love this as an airport outfit – just add a black leather duffle for a weekend away!

You’ll start feeling like Kendall Jenner in no time — that hat definitely helps. lol

A TOUCH OF BLUSH

Can winter be over already? This past weekend we got a glimpse of spring and it’s amazing how much different I can feel with a glimpse of sunshine and temps above 30 degrees.

My day to day winter wardrobe has been consumed by my black parka puffer but occasionally I do like to switch things up when it gets above freezing — the outfit? Winter white with my menswear wool outerwear staple from Aritzia.

This past fall everyone was fraying their denim and I was all about this trend. A cropped flare to show off more of your shoe? Sign me up.

This pair of cropped denim by Levi’s I found on the sale rack and they’re the perfect shade of ivory white. They have the ideal high waist I’m constantly searching for and pair so nice with my Aerie off-the-shoulder sweater.

I’m happy to see I can still bare my shoulders in the winter which was probably my favorite trend of the summer. I know everyone and their mom is wearing an off-the-shoulder top these days but I can’t give it up just yet. For spring ,I’m already seeing the trend evolve into one shoulder silhouettes and some bold statement sleeves which I’m excited to incorporate for future looks!

But the real star of this outfit? The blush velvet bootie.

I originally longed for the navy velvet bootie. I went back and forth, tried them on at the store and then dreamed about them for days…months really. Then came, Cyber Monday…where the bootie was on sale and I couldn’t pass them up! I added the navy to my cart but then also clicked over and saw the blush. I had to have both.

My blush obsession has been pretty real lately — it’s such a pretty shade and even acts as a neutral within my wardrobe. It pairs beautifully with greys, whites and taupes. Highly recommend mixing it in yours!

The monotone look is super easy to recreate and never fails to look chic. Ready to go winter white?

WARDROBE MUST-HAVE: THE TEDDY BEAR COAT

What’s the next best thing to being wrapped in a blanket? The teddy bear coat.

Ever since I saw this trend via Instagram on some of my favorite bloggers– I was on the hunt for a similar jacket. The fleecy fabric is so soft, adds a cool texture and will be sure to keep you warm through these winter months!

Luckily, American Eagle Outfitters mixed two of my favorite trends together — the moto jacket and the teddy bear coat. The best of both worlds! I went with a size small and it fits a bit oversized which I love.

I decided to keep the rest of my look super simple, all black, and kept the jacket as my statement piece. I’ve been loving slip dresses since last summer and wanted a way to wear the style into winter. I paired my Don’t Ask Why black slip dress over a pair of slashed-knee American Eagle jeggings for some edge.

To complete my look, I added one of my favorite beanies, also by AE, with the cutest faux fur pom and my Steve Madden pointy boots. This is the perfect look to take from day to night.

GET THE GLOW…EVEN IN WINTER

Can winter be over already?

I don’t know about you but I’m over these freezing temps! But just because it’s dark and dreary out doesn’t mean your skin has to be.

It is possible to achieve a glow that will reminisce of your summer days with a few key products.

I was at brunch with a few friends over the weekend post snow storm and my friend Sophia admired my highlighter. I obviously had to get a pic and it inspired me to share a post with you all on what I use to achieve the look. See below 🙂

img_2361

PAT MCGRATH SKIN FETISH 003 in GOLDEN I have Instagram to thank for this purchase. World renowned make-up artist, Pat McGrath launched her own makeup line a few months back and I saw this highlighter teased out on Instagram by some of my favorite It Girls. I’m all about any product that helps you achieve that J.Lo glow so I had to have it. I immediately texted my make-up artist friend, Kendall because I knew she’d want this product as much as I did! So grateful to have a make-up obsessed friend like her because she was able to order it for me as it sold out so quickly and could barely make it in my cart! What’s cool about this product is that it has two ends on the stick –a balm to achieve a dewiness, a golden hue and then an illuminating powder to set the highlight stick with a special edition brush that comes with the kit. A little goes a long way  — I like above my cheek bone and on the brow bone.

NARS BLUSH in GINA + DEEP THROAT – This is my everyday blush combo I am sharing with you all, you’re welcome. I wanted a matte peachy blush forever ago and came across this shade by Nars called Gina. However, that wasn’t enough. I needed a touch of sheen that wasn’t over the top shimmery to layer on top which resulted in the perfect pink shade called ‘Deep Throat’. It’s a toned down version of the favorite ‘Orgasm’ and it looks good on everyone. You’ll adore this combo – trust me.

I complete this look with a simple neutral lip color. I love Laura Mercier’s lip sheen in “Bare Lips”. Not only does it give a touch of rose sheen but is super moisturizing – win-win!

Hope these tips will not only brighten your skin but your day!

NYE INSPO: THE VELVET DRESS

New Year’s Eve is quickly approaching! If you’re in need of some last minute outfit inspo — add a touch of velvet.

I’ve had a recent obsession with all things blush and this dress from Zara had everything I could want and more. If you’re looking to mix up your LBD – I suggest adding this texture to your outfit.

I paired mine with simple nude heels and a fun faux furry clutch.

Linking a few of my favorite velvet pieces below! I can’t find an exact link to my dress anymore (annoying I know) but I would definitely scout your local Zara because they’re currently having their major sale! I also know it comes in a beautiful emerald green.

BORROWED FROM THE BOYS: THE MENSWEAR SWEATER

This edition of ‘Borrowed From the Boys’ is about my latest obsession – the menswear sweater.

I’ve been looking for great oversized sweaters to pair with everything from denim, leggings to mini skirts and then I realized — what if I shop the men’s section?

I love the menswear inspired look so I decided to get a few sweaters from American Eagle Outfitters menswear collection in size small and am obsessed. Whether you’re looking for the perfect knit crew neck or a chunky turtleneck — they have it all!

For this look I decided to pair my oversized navy turtleneck sweater with a patterned mini-skirt. When the top is much looser it’s important to balance the proportions — a mini skirt with tights is a perfect mix.

This patterned velvet skirt nods to this texture trend that’s been everywhere this season and adds a special touch to a basic sweater. I added my suede over-the-knee boots and one of my favorite hats from Madewell to complete my look.

Don’t worry about stealing your guy’s sweater — links below!

Blush + Black Leather

The fall to winter going-out uniform; black leather jacket, body suit, high-waisted denim and black booties.

I’ve had a recent obsession with the color blush and I love how it pairs with black. Think of it as a feminine neutral to work into your wardrobe. My obsession with the color has gone further than clothing…it’s found it’s way into decorating my new apartment!

For this look, I kept it simple with a form fitting body suit from Forever 21 — it has the perfect crew neck — so good that I also bought it in grey!

When wearing a bodysuit, I suggest keeping the denim not as tight. The Vintage Hi-Rise in black by American Eagle Outfitters is a perfect match to balance the look. I decided fray the bottoms for some edge. Hard not to do this to all my denim at the moment.

The leather moto jacket, from Zara, adds structure to my look and the perfect staple to wear out. Zara makes a variety of leather jackets at very affordable prices and the fit is always amazing.

To finish the outfit, I chose the Pistol bootie by Steve Madden. I had my eyes on these boots for some time and magically I got them on sale for 40% off! #allidoiswin

I love the pointed toe and chunky heel — they are surprisingly comfortable and at 3 inches high you could wear them day to night.

Sunday Styles

Crisp fall weather means one thing…cozy cardigans…and lots of mocha lattes.

Sundays are always filled with running countless errands around the city — instead of grabbing your go-to black leggings (which I fully support), switch things up with an oversized cardigan and a great pair of denim.

I’ve been loving the two-tone denim look for a new take on your favorite pair of jeans. This pair from American Eagle Outfitters is one of the latest fits from the brand – the Vintage Hi-Rise. At first you might be confused on how to wear the two-tone style but think of them as a statement pair of jeans when you want to switch things up.

I love a dramatic cardi in these cooler months. It’s easy to throw on and be comfortable but the length adds a new level of chic.

It’s been all about the menswear loafer — whether or not you’ve got your hands on the Gucci loafer (#goals) you can still have this trend in your wardrobe by so many brands offering a similar look without breaking the bank. I scored these over a year ago from Target — yes Target. Fun fact, these were on major clearance for $8.00 – talk about deal of a century! I’m still beaming. That’s cheaper than your Chipotle burrito bowl which means more money for guac. #winning

Layered with a simple white tee and an addition of round  Ray-Bans  and gold hoop earrings, this is an easy breezy outfit to wear while checking off your to-do list and meeting up with your girls for brunch.

NEW YORK IS ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA

Take your bomber jacket to the next level. This style of jacket isn’t going anywhere. Whether you’re digging the athleisure trend (a Syma Speaks previous post) or wanting to be casual cool and wear at the jacket with some jeans — this outerwear piece is here to stay.

What’s been all over my Instagram feed is the embroidered bomber jacket. I’ve come across some amazing styles at vintage stores around Brooklyn but great news for the rest of the world — you can score a version of the trend at Forever 21.

I have always loved the color mustard yellow and when I came across this jacket with this message true to my heart on the back, “New York is Always a Good Idea” — I had to have it.

I love making this the statement piece so I kept the rest of my look pretty simple. I adore a great pair of distressed denim –these I had my eyes on for months after seeing countless paparazzi shots of Kendall Jenner wearing them I had to try them on!

The result? Just as amazing as I imagined. The ‘Liya’ jean by Citizens of Humanity  at Aritzia will definitely be a wardrobe staple. A similar pair at an amazing price point would be the Vintage Hi-Rise by American Eagle Outfitters — there’s a ton of shades with a true denim feel that I love.

I completed my look with a simple white tee and my new favorite booties (I got on sale!) by Steve Madden. I’ve been on the hunt for a block heel pointy black boot for a while and these don’t only look great but are actually comfortable (rare). Highly recommend.

LEATHER WEATHER

There’s nothing like leather jacket weather in New York. October is here and the temps have cooled down making it the best time to break out your little moto jacket. It’s the perfect piece to edge up an outfit and give the ultimate ‘cool girl’ vibe.

I had quite the debate when choosing a leather jacket. It’s a big decision in your wardrobe! You want to invest in one that gives you a buttery feel and instantly boosts your confidence when you put it on. I was back and forth between two options — it was serious. Ask my friends, family, coworkers, loved ones…strangers…you name it, they were involved. I finally let my heart decide — Zara, you won me over.

It’s kind of amazing — every time I would see a girl on the street in NYC in a great leather jacket and asked where she got it thinking it was from an outrageous unattainable brand…she’d say, “Oh it’s from Zara!” — and then I knew, Zara, you were the one.

I love the shape of this one because it’s not too bulky and still feels feminine. I can still layer a sweater underneath but also easily wear over a tank or tee.

I adore gold. This tank was a fun find at Forever 21. Champagne gold is so flattering on a variety of skin tones. It gives such a pretty sheen. I styled it with my go-to “Mom” jeans from American Eagle Outfitters. I’m all about a high-waisted denim.

Now for accessories, I added nude pumps from Mango and a vintage sequin bag because you can never have enough sparkle.

To complete my look, I paired these minimal gold earrings I found from a designer on Etsy, Kalliste,– you must check out her shop!

Now recreate this look and please blast, “Cool Girl”  by Tove Lo while doing it because that’s what I’m jamming to right now. 🙂

5 STATEMENT EARRINGS YOU NEED NOW

I love a statement earring. There’s no reason not to try this trend when there are so many affordable options out there! It’s the perfect way to dress up a simple white t-shirt, off-the-shoulder blouse or add some excitement to your little black dress. I’ve rounded up my favorites from Baublebar, H&M and Aldo. At these prices, you can afford all of them, and more! #ballinonabudget

The 4TH

The 4TH

Can’t believe it’s almost time for the 4th! Currently procrastinating packing for my trip home and making an inspiration board instead. This year I feel like taking a break from my go-to nautical stripes and am feelin’ an all white ensemble. A simple white tank with a pair of cropped white denim is all I want to wear. A frayed hem is key to this outfit. (Feel free to get the scissors out on an old pair of jeans you own to try this trend.)

It’s all about straw accessories. Whether it’s structured bags or my favorite accessory of last summer that is still going strong — the straw boater hat — it’s a summer must-have! I’m borderline obsessed with the straw pom pom bags, it adds the perfect texture to any outfit.
Also, I am loving a slip on sandal. Not only are they extremely comfortable, but they make me feel like an Olsen twin — effortless and cool. They’re also a dream to wear to the airport and can be dressed up or down.
Add a pop of color with an orangey-coral lip. This shade looks good on just about everyone. Currently loving Mac’s “Fruit Cocktail” lipliner for this.

For a night of fireworks ahead — a denim jacket, like this oversized style from American Eagle ties my look together (literally). I love tying a denim jacket around my waist to break up the monotone look.

Hope I inspired your look for a fun weekend ahead! Happy 4th!

BLUE JEANS AND BOMBERS

Blue jeans and bombers are never a bad idea. For a cool summer night, I love a great oversized jacket with a fitted top and jeans.

IMG_4681IMG_2009IMG_4633

I’m obsessed with this jacket designed by Amanda Litzinger of Stickybaby. She will most likely have a piece of clothing to match your #currentmood in the most stylish way.

Layered underneath is a peek of a lace-up top from American Eagle. We’ve been seeing these trend go full force thanks to Reformation. (I can’t get enough!) You definitely need one in your wardrobe this summer.

I’m a jeans kind of girl. These Denim X style also by American Eagle are as comfortable as a legging but has that great distressing and edge that only denim can give.

To dress things up, I paired this look with my favorite grey All Saints pumps. The word that comes to mind when I put these on? Slay. (All day)

5. I love this maxi from Zara. Easy, breezy & bright! I’m loving yellow this season — it’s such a flattering color and makes a bold statement.

THE UNIFORM – MOTO + STRIPES

IMG_4312

This spring the weather has been a little all over the place. This week has really warmed up but some days it turns back to cooler temps so it’s important to be prepared and layer it up!

What I can’t stop wearing? A moto jacket and stripe tees. I was so excited last fall when I got this jacket from Aritzia and I love that I can transition it into spring/summer easily with my Aerie stripe t-shirt. Around this time of year, I’m all about a bold nautical stripe. It’s a timeless trend that always looks great.

My favorite accessory of the moment? Round sunglasses. I love this style by EyeBuyDirect — it’s a take on the classic round Ray-Bans for a fraction of the cost. Be sure to check them out, here.

WHY I LOVE NEW YORK CITY: #519 Syma

I was fortunate enough to be featured on one of my favorite sites, Why I Love New York City. Since I moved to New York four years ago, I’ve been following this site and have loved the stories people have shared. When asked to write about a special moment in New York  I immediately thought back to my first job in the city, working New York Fashion Week…

IMG_0287

Walking into this huge industrial space, I stared at rows and rows of open seats. I could feel my heart quicken as I realized in just a couple of hours I would be surrounded by chaos and impatient guests demanding to be seated. A voice to the right of me shook me from my thoughts as I watched a tall slender woman hurriedly run towards the catwalk, “but I have no make up!” She exclaimed in a curiously familiar accent. Before she turned I instantly knew who it was…. Gisele. There I was, Syma, from Fort Wayne, Indiana just a few feet away from her as she did a rehearsal walk down the runway. She didn’t need any make-up, she was absolutely flawless. It was insane to be around one of the worlds most famous supermodels at the Alexander Wang show. As the lights came down and I went quickly into fashion show mode doing my best intern duties to seat guests, the song “Regulate” by Warren G came on and I thought to myself, “this is the coolest thing I have ever done.

I was fortunate enough to work 12 shows including Marc Jacobs, Diane von Furstenberg, Victoria Beckham and Alexander Wang. It was unreal to actually have contact with some of my favorite fashion influencers like Nina Garcia and to see dynamic duo Anna Wintour and Grace Coddington in action. I was also star struck during the Marc Jacobs show seeing Marc Jacobs himself and Francois Nars. Being a bit beauty obsessed, seeing the creator of Nars cosmetics kind of made my life. And talk about #relationshipgoals when you spot David Beckham seated front row with the kids lit up with pride as he watched his wife’s work come down the runway.

I like to always think back at that time in my life when I start questioning New York. Some days I want to stay in bed and hide from the crowds but then I remember that NYC is the best thing that ever happened to me. Thank you, New York for making me grow up and learn what I can accomplish on my own. It’s true, there’s nothin’ you can’t do when you’re in this city — and I hope I always have that mentality wherever the road takes me.

SPRING IN THE CITY

May has arrived and somehow in NYC it’s still super cold, gloomy and rainy. Not exactly the spring weather I’ve been dreaming of all winter long…

So the question is how do you dress for this weather when it’s gross out but want to feel springy and stylish? Layer.

IMG_0284HOSTING_031316_0122IMG_0281IMG_0283

The one coat you need for the season is a soft trench coat. I like this style over a traditional structured style because it can add movement to your outfit, dress it up and feels super feminine. I bought this jacket a few years back from Aritzia. They make amazing outerwear — you can find a similar style, here.

IMG_0280HOSTING_031316_0146

My go-to outfit is my grey high waisted American Eagle jeans and grey v-neck tee. I love a good monochrome outfit but I like to update it with accessories.

I can’t get enough of the bandana scarf. A simple and inexpensive accessory is the perfect way to add a little something to your look. I love this pale pink bandana with my grey and tan jacket — one of my favorite color combos.HOSTING_031316_0140

What I wear more than anything? Grey tops + jeans. This combination will never get old to me. However, the type of silhouette of your top can take your classic t-shirt and jeans to a whole different level. Queue: the off-the-shoulder top.

I’ve been obsessed with off-the-shoulder anything since last spring and I’m so excited this trend is here to stay. One day I was browsing one of the 100 H&M’s in NYC and there it was – the perfect update to my grey tee collection: the off-the-shoulder grey top! I envisioned another Kendall Jenner outfit recreation and had to purchase.

I paired the top with my go-to high waisted American Eagle Outfitters jeans that are this amazing saturated indigo blue. These jeans seriously do not lose their shape — the Denim X technology is incredible wear after wear – I highly reccommend!

Now to accessorize — I completed my look with the belt of the moment: the concho belt. I’m pretty sure my oldest sister wore this belt in high school (mid 90’s) and I kind of wish she still had it. I found this one for under 10 bucks at Forever 21 — it was a must buy!

Next, I added a simple gold choker, my latest round Ray-Bans (obsessed) and my beloved Dolce Vita ankle boots.

Are you ready to recreate?

Welcome to The Glossier Penthouse

I’ve been a fan of Into The Gloss for as long as I can remember and think Emily Weiss, the creator, is a genius and major #girlBOSS. I was fan-girling out when Into The Gloss launched their beauty line, Glossier.  Scrolling through Instagram this past weekend, I saw that the Glossier Penthouse was open once again to show off their latest collection. I texted my best girlfriends and made a day of it!

From the Phase 1 collection, I own the Perfecting Skin Tint and Balm Dot Calm (best name ever) so I was excited to see the latest products up close and in-person. If you’re in NYC and a beauty lover like me, I highly suggest you check out the space! First off, it’s beautiful. Located in Soho, the penthouse is beautifully decorated with insane natural light, an amazing terrace, clean white counter-tops, touches of the signature Glossier pink from it’s packaging and a model-filled mood board. I was also obsessed with the hip hop jams playing while I was testing beauty products. Basically, me living the dream.Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

I can never pass up a new lipstick, so I immediately focused on the new lip stains featured in the new collection called, _Generation G. This is the perfect everyday lip. It goes on like a balm but wears like a lip stain. The color is sheer but can build to the intensity you want. I chose the ‘Crush’ shade which is a stunning berry pink. This color is totally universal and looks amazing on a variety of skin tones. I rocked it the next day and got a ton of compliments. Definitely a great way to start a Monday. Be sure to check out all four shades.Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

Another fun new addition to the Glossier family is the Stretch Concealer. It wears very smooth and easy to apply. Not cakey or flat and gives a nice dewy finish – ideal for under eyes and to offer some brightness which everyone needs in their life.

I’m not one to pencil-in my brows but I’ve heard awesome things about the ‘Boy Brow’ if you want to get your Cara Delevingne on. This wonder wand is also part of the Phase 2 kit and is a great way to make your brows stand out. I also left the penthouse with one more purchase, The _Priming Moisturizer. I tried a dab on my hand and it felt incredibly soft — I basically wanted to buy 10 bottles for my entire body but I settled on one for now.

The girls in the showroom were so helpful and it was so fun talking beauty with them as they are just as obsessed as I am. Definitely check the space out if you’re in the New York area, I know they will be open again this coming weekend. Find out more on their Instagram, here.

TOP 5 SPRING TRANSITIONAL JACKETS YOU NEED NOW

IMG_2016.JPG

The forecast has been a little all over the place in NYC but we’ve had a few amazing days hit the high 60’s which basically makes me feel like a completely different person. Like I said in my last post, I can’t officially put my parka away but my go-to Spring jackets are making their way to the front of my closet and I couldn’t be more excited! I’ve rounded up a few favorites for you to transition into the new spring season with ease — hopefully you’ll get a little inspiration from the below!

I love this AEO classic military jacket. This style is boxy and fits a bit oversized. A timeless piece and a must-have in your closet.

The perfect Anorak from Aritzia. The hood saves you on rainy days and won’t go out of style.

Everyone need a good denim jacket. AEO never fails to give you this classic. This borrowed from the boys inspired fit will add just the amount of edge to the cute spring dress you’ve been dying to wear!

s15_01_005_54919_1786_off_f.jpg

You can never go wrong with a trench jacket. This structured style by Aritzia is a great staple to add to your wardrobe. Mix it up with some clean white sneaks for a minimal and clean look.

I really can’t get enough of the bomber jacket. This is my fourth one I bought but “can’t stop won’t stop” – it’s the perfect update to take me into spring in style, found at Zara.

BREAKING: IT’S STILL SWEATER WEATHER

Daylight savings has occurred and we’ve had a couple of amazing warm spring-like days in NYC…

Just when I thought I could put my parka away for good (rejoice!) it’s somehow freezing again in the big city.

Before we go full-on spring closet flip — let’s keep it real. We might as well get some CPW (cost per wear) out of our favorite winter sweaters, right?

IMG_1120IMG_1131

I love an oversized sweater with a leather legging. This look is by Aritzia. I love the oatmeal shade of this sweater. It’s super cozy and insanely warm.

I’m always into a good texture mix so I brought back my go-to leather leggings to keep it cool and sleek.

IMG_1137

My favorite accessory of the moment? The bandana. First I was a little nervous about the whole neck-tie thing but again, blame the world of Instagram to see so many of my favorite Fashionistas rocking it.  (Tutorial coming soon!)

I styled this bandana like a choker. It gives a little bit of edge to any look.

IMG_1143

Added my American Eagle Outfitters sunnies, Rebecca Minkoff cross-body purse and my Sam Edelman booties and I’m good to go. 🙂

Don’t worry…we won’t be wearing sweaters for too much longer but while we are we might as well be cute — wise words to live by from Reformation:

WARDROBE STAPLE: THE BOMBER JACKET

One of the most exciting moments of my life happened recently… I was featured on WhoWhatWear.com! If you are not familiar with the website, I highly recommend checking it out. It is one of my go-to fashion sites for trends, tips and the inside scoop on the industry. What made the moment even better, the picture they chose features one of my key wardrobe staples – the bomber jacket. If you recall, I did a post awhile ago on Syma Speaks on ‘athleisure’ — I rocked my American Eagle Outfitters bomber jacket and am thrilled this trend is here to stay.

IMG_0803

I wanted to revamp the look a bit with a little inspiration from one of my favorite models of the moment, Kendall Jenner.

tumblr_nztkh0K0pt1ttv5tmo1_1280

There’s nothing I love more than a model-off-duty look and Kendall nails it every time. Kendall has mastered the athleisure look to make leggings look completely put together and the epitome of cool.

This look is super simple to recreate and you can wear these pieces multiple times which gives you even more reason to shop them below.

I started my look with my black bomber jacket. Yes, I also own this jacket in olive green but when an item is so good, you buy every color – right?

Layered underneath, is this cool sports bra from Aerie. I love the color-blocking. This bra fits like a crop top, so it’s a perfect match with a hi-rise legging. These high-waisted leggings are also from American Eagle Outfitters – they have a great feel and won’t stretch out which is exactly what you want in a legging for endless wear.

Accessorized with the bag that perfectly mirrors my motto in life, “After This We’re Getting Pizza”. The bag is a great size to keep a change of clothes if you’re hitting the gym or packing some weekend essentials for your next getaway.

Add my sleek Nike sneakers and go-to Ray-Bans and I’m ready to hit my favorite dance class or do a little shopping in style.

THE BEST DRUGSTORE MATTE LIPGLOSSES

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

All yours for under $15.00.

Having #KylieLipKit FOMO? We’ve all been there. Even if you’re not following Kylie Jenner — I’m sure you have heard of The Kylie Lip Kit.

We might have to blame Instagram, but beauty fanatics everywhere know all we want in our make-up bag right now is a matte lipgloss. However, the Kylie Lip Kit isn’t so easy to get our hands on so I’ve found the next best thing. Actually, the next best three things…

On a recent trip to Chicago, my sister and I went a little lip gloss crazy at Ulta — we tend to get very excited not only when we see each other but when we hit the make-up aisle at any drugstore.

My top three matte lip gloss brands ranked?

#1 – L ‘Oreal

What is hilarious is that I saw the L’Oreal Pro-Matte Lipgloss promoted on Nylon.com and took a screenshot and sent it to my sisters the week before. Just a few hours later, I received snapchats from both of them with the new gloss — they had purchased that day! As you can tell, beauty obsession runs in the family. The L’Oreal definitely feels the best on and gives you an instant pop of color. You really only need one swipe and you’re golden for the day. That’s right — after a few hours I didn’t need to reapply. I love ‘Statement Nude’ in this line — it’s a rosey nude shade that is perfect for everyday wear.

#2 – Maybelline

The Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid is a close second. I purchased “Nude Thrill” and I have no regrets. The perfect mix of brown with a hint of pink so it doesn’t completely wash me out.

#3 – NYX

And last but certainly not least, NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams. I picked up Abu Dhabi and Tokyo. I would definitely say these are the best ones to mix other lip colors with. Abu Dhabi is also closest to the signature Kylie “Dolce K” lip color. These glide on super smooth but aren’t completely matte. They offer insane color so I like mixing them when you want to brighten or darken a shade.

Each lipgloss is under $15.00, there’s no reason not to try them all! I highly recommend.

Can’t wait to see your matte lip selfies!

THE BLACK ALBUM

_MG_5250Not only one of my favorite Jay Z albums but when I wear ‘all black everything’ I feel like a bo$$.

IMG_1326

Maybe, it’s living in New York for four years now (crazy how time flies) but there’s nothing I love more than some monotone.

Wearing one color makes this outfit super easy to recreate if I do say so myself. (Are you sick of my Jay Z lines yet? I’m not.)

This entire outfit besides my accessories are from one of my favorite stores, Aritzia. They’re known for their killer outerwear and I am obsessed with their sweaters/everything they have.

This coat is the Aubertin coat by Wilfred. It is the perfect long black coat that not only dresses up your look but is insanely warm. The oversized pockets are great to hold your large iPhone Plus (I just got one) so that’s definitely a “plus” in my book.

I’m a big fan of oversized sweaters, there’s nothing cozier you can put on in these cooler months as we are still making our way through winter. This sweater is the Tyrion Sweater by Babaton. It’s a super thick knit that feels like you borrowed it from your favorite boy but has a feminine cut with the v-like neckline — basically the perfect sweater.

EDIT-10Lastly, the faux leather legging. I’ve had these Wilfred Free Daria leggings for years and they never fail. I love wearing them with a simple black bootie — mine are the Petty’s by Sam Edelman — or adding a cool white sneaker to keep it casual. The perfect pant to take you from day to night. These also have a nice hi-rise so they won’t sag which is never a good look.

_MG_5296IMG_0213To accessorize — this is a fringe bag I got forever ago in college from H&M. I was super excited fringe came back in a big way this past year so I could break out this bad boy again. You can find a similar version here.

Blanket Scarf 101

Back by popular demand (my sister), I’ve decided to do an updated post on how to wear my favorite winter accessory — the blanket scarf!

Many of my friends know that I’m a bit addicted to this large accessory from Aritzia. In these colder months, it saves me walking around this chilly city! If you don’t own one yet, I highly suggest buying one for yourself, your mom, your sister and your girlfriend too!

There are many ways to wear it — so prepare to be amazed!

Symafinal

Also, how fun is this gif?

Let’s begin — I like to first fold it diagonally so it’s a bit easier to work with.

IMG_0187

The Shawl – When it’s not too cold, this is a perfect way to drape the scarf to add some texture and color to your look. A great sub when you don’t feel like wearing a coat. Especially on a day like today where it was randomly 50 degrees in NYC!

IMG_0177

2. Swaddle Me – I’m a new Aunt to my baby nephew Ali — let’s just say babies aren’t the only ones who can get their swaddle on. (Lol) Sure you might not be able to move your arms but you’re going to be super comfy and warm all day long!

IMG_0178

3. The Classic – Fashion meets function. Your safest bet to stay warm all winter long. Your scarf tied with an easy loop around your neck won’t go anywhere. Sometimes I completely cover my mouth and throw on my parka with a hood. Your friends might say, “Are you climbing Mt. Everest” (true story) but who cares — anything for warmth!

IMG_0179

4. Flip It and Reverse It – Take a cue from Missy (she’s back!) and wear the reverse side of your blanket scarf the next time you drape it like a shawl. I’ve been loving winter whites and creams this season to brighten my everyday look in a sea of black parkas.

Add my favorite camel coat and I’m ready for a very fashionable February!

BUT FIRST, COFFEE.

All I need is coffee..mascara…an oversized grey cardigan…ripped jeans and maybe a slice of pizza.

IMG_0008

I was never a coffee drinker. I somehow made it through college without drinking one drop of coffee. I was the girl that ordered a hot chocolate when friends wanted to grab a cup of joe. Then soon the real world hit — where it somehow became the thing to do. It was like being at a college party and feeling the peer pressure — “What?! You don’t drink coffee?!”

I felt out of the loop — coffee time was a sacred moment at the office where coworkers could share fun stories and recap their weekend — if I didn’t partake I might not be part of the conversation – the horror!

Then one summer, an intern we had enlightened me. “Syma, why don’t you add some hot chocolate to your cup of coffee, then you’ll have an instant mocha!” Pure genius.
Four years later, I still drink coffee with hot chocolate mix — I apologize to my dentist but for now this is the only way it can happen.

So now what do I need in the AM besides coffee and my solid 15 minute morning routine? Mascara. This tee from Aerie couldn’t be cuter or more Insta-worthy if I do say so myself (Jay Z voice).

IMG_0009

Sadly, it’s freezing out so I couldn’t show you the beautiful low-back but I love the soft jersey this tee is made in. I paired this tee for a casual coffee run with my American Eagle Outfitters Tomgirl jeans and oversized cardi.

IMG_0003IMG_0004IMG_0011IMG_0006IMG_0010

In the Tomgirls I size down 2 sizes — I’ve never loved a super slouchy jean on myself so these still feel like I won’t lose my shape but give that effortless look I always love.

A simple grey cardigan, also from American Eagle Outfitters is all you’ll want to wear this winter.

I completed my #OOTD with my go-to Rachel Comey booties and I’m off to grab a cup of joe and run my usual weekend errands with a side of window-shopping.
